AGEWELL FORSYTHBrand PositioningIdentity Concepts
WHO WE ARE
THE SITUATION
AgeWell Forsyth is an organization set up to help seniors live actively in the community by providing an outlet for seniors who remain active and who like to socialize and explore other areas life has to offer.
Basically, AgeWell tries to evoke a "never to late" mentality. They support all levels of functionality and also act as a support network within the community of seniors.
THE GOAL
AgeWell Forsyth is looking to establish an identity not only for their group, but for the people who use their services at the Forsyth County Senior Center.
Instead of being labeled Senior Citizens - seniors who use their services would like to be labeled something else that evokes a more positive and empowering lifestyle.
THE APPROACH
THE COUNCIL
Engaging. Inspiring. Empowering.
Making connections. Engaging experiences.
THE FOUNDATION
Enabling Inspiration
Growth by Inspiration
THE APPROACH
THE COUNCIL:
an assembly of persons summoned or convened for consultation, deliberation, or advice.
Concept: SEE the Forest for the trees.
Connections with many diverse people through engaging experiences that AgeWell would provide. The illustration style is modern, yet would appeal to all age groups.
Concept: The tree of empowerment.
A fun and youthful creative solution that illustrates AgeWell as a source of empowerment and inspiration.
THE APPROACH
THE FOUNDATION:
the basis or groundwork of anything: the moral foundation of both society and religion. the state of being founded.
Concept: What’s inspiration?
This illustration would represent the strength of the tree trunk and branches reaching out to others. The mountains in the background symbolize strength and inspiration - also the Georgia foothills of the community.
Concept: it all starts with a seed.
This photo realistic representation is an elegant and sophisticated approach that tells the story of "Growth by Inspiration". The acorn speaks to AgeWell as a new but growing organization. When provided the necessary attention and nutrients, the organization will foster inspiration and knowledge related to the subject matter.
We are here to help.
Thanks,
Stephen "Ray" Killebrew

Branding Assignment
AgeWell Forsyth Late Night Assignment
Get comfy before you begin!
Slip into your pajamas and big furry slippers. Sit back in your recliner with a warm cup of your favorite late night beverage—but don’t spill it on this!
This is your late night assignment. Email this assignment back to ray before our next meeting and I will share the results (ray@brandrave.com).
All of us have ideas. It’s just a matter of encouraging a flow instead of a mere trickle… Only a few of us keep in touch with this ability as we begin to take up residence in the left hemisphere of our brains as we arrive at work each day. We have so little time to be imaginative, but so much time to stop and fiddle with our solutions.
“BRAIN-clustering”
One way to cultivate and gain easy access to the brain’s creative potential is through the non-linear “Brain-sailing” technique we call “BRAIN-clustering”. It’s an act of self-definition of what you know, what you wonder about, what you feel, see, hear, touch, taste—all of which reflects your unique voice. The beauty of “BRAIN-clustering” is that it allows us to form new ideas intuitively, in a way where ideas come of their own accord.
What you should do: (this requires no formal training!)
1. Find some quiet, uninterrupted time and space (good luck!). Plan on taking about 20-30 minutes for the exercise.
2. Write “Empowerment” and “Inspire” in the middle of a blank page and circle it. This nucleus word will evoke clusters of associations unique to you. The nucleus acts as the stimulus for recording all the associations that spring to mind. “BRAIN-clustering” always unfolds from the center (see example).
3. Now, let your playful, creative design mind make connections. Simply let go and write as quickly as you can. Avoid judging or choosing. Let the words and phrases radiate out from the nucleus word, and draw a circle around each of them. Connect those associations that seem related with lines.
4. As you cluster, you may experience a sense of randomness or, if you are somewhat skeptical, an uneasy sense that isn’t leading anywhere. That is the logical side of your mind wanting to get into the act to make you feel silly for not setting thoughts down in logical order. Trust this process though. “BRAIN-clustering” is something we all do naturally, only seldom do we make these clusters visible on paper.
5. Let “BRAIN-clustering” happen naturally. If you reach a plateau where nothing happens, doodle for a while by adding arrows or something. Use as many sheets of paper as you need to capture your mindstream.
6. As you spill out seemingly random words and phrases around the center you will be surprised at the ideas that appear until the “aha” moment. You are done when you experience a mental shift characterized by the satisfying feeling you’ve discovered something--the “aha”.
7. Once you’ve finished the first word, write the word “AGEWELL” in a circle on the middle of another page and repeat the exercise.
So, give it a try. Let your design mind spring off of “Empowerment”, “Inspire” and “Agewell” and the associated words or phrases and “BRAIN-cluster”. Tap into your inborn receptivity to pattern-making and playfulness, discovery, and metamorphic connection. Happy “BRAIN-clustering”!

Branding
Hi all, I received a couple of documents from Brand Rave that fell into my junk folder for some reason. I thought you might have had the same experience, so I am sending them along again.
The word document is a brainstorming session. I think that we have done quite a bit of this lately and everyone has provided good feedback to the document we worked on at the last meeting. (I think Barbara is going to post it to the blog, or I can e-mail you a copy if you want to review it.) So I was happy to see the powerpoint that Ray also sent along. I am not quite satisfied that it completely reflects our discussions yet, but there are some nice graphics and seeds of good ideas that I will work on over the weekend. If you have any specific comments to the powerpoint, please send them to me and I can incorporate them into our next round of branding discussions.
Thanks for your time and energy...and we can't forget that while we are working on branding we should continue to pull together our first projects. Love the Comcast idea that is going around in another e-mail string. That's the type of thing we can cite as a "proof point" when we talk about who we are and why we are essential to the community.
Best,
Lisa

Barbara called the meeting to order:
Lisa read the minutes
Lynn moved to accept the minutes, they were approved unanimously.
Barbara introduced a motion to approve Lori and Joanne as members of the board. The motion was unanimously approved
Lynn submitted her treasurer’s report.
The present balance is $29,958.70
She has set up Quickbooks Pro for recording all transactions.
We have received a Visa card for purchases. The corporate card still requires a personal social security number, and she states that she will close out that account when she is no longer treasurer.
Lori moved that we approved the treasurer’s report. Unanimously approved
Old business:
Shelley:
501C status is still in progress. We have not received approval yet.
Leadership Forsyth is still planning to complete the project as discussed.
Mural in the back room is complete
Shelley reports that the renovation of the center has revitalized the attitude among the client base and the staff. It also makes a better impression among new people who arrive because it no longer has an institutional feel.
The Sr. Expo was a success (Feb 17). We had a good mix of vendors. Attendees who filled out surveys were pleased with the event. We are talking about shifting it to another time, possibly in the fall, for 2008.
The group of seniors is going to the capitol tomorrow. We are taking 2 or 3 buses. A photo session is planned with the governor, and we are meeting with 4-5 state representatives.
Lynn reports: Parks and rec is going for a $60M bond, which may include money for an additional Senior Center. Additional land for parks would be purchased. Possibly a building at Central Park. They recognize needs for Senior activity in the county
Adult Daycare Committee
Diane, Lynn and Shelley have been visiting adult daycare facilities. Sandy Springs, Gainesville and Cobb County facilities were visited to review how they operate. A representative from Automation Direct is also working with the committee. Shelley will be documenting a vision for an adult daycare facility for Forsyth County.
A representative from United Way expressed interest in keeping up with the information and seeing if United Way could partner in the effort.
Pat Freeman, Legacy Link, was holding money for Adult Day Care, but had to allocate it to other areas. She will do this in the next grant cycle again because of her support for adult day care in the county.
Grant application:
The board decided not to apply for the grant application that was circulated prior to the meeting.

Ray and Chris lead a discussion to help us develop our brand. We brainstormed a bit and reviewed the notes from our last meeting regarding the organization’s intention to “inspire seniors” to live more actively, regardless of level of functionality or ability to pay.
The notes from the brainstorming session were adjusted to show that we are a support organization and that we will not be directly providing programs for Seniors.
Discussion included definitions of our prime target audience
Senior Center: Seniors who live in Forsyth County, and their families (regardless of where they live)
Age Well: Government, corporations, the Forsyth County community as a whole, foundations, seniors and families of seniors
It was noted that as an independent organization, Age Well can provide additional support, community activism and financing that the Sr. Center cannot perform as a governmental agency.
Action item: Brandrave is to come back to the board with a statement that could be an elevator speech, and easy way for us to describe ourselves and our mission to our constituents.
The board agreed that our 6pm meetings were not going to work for everyone. Our next meetings have been scheduled as follows:
May 3, 7:00 pm
May 24th, 7:00 pm,
Our new standing meeting time and date will be the 4th Thursday of each month at 7:00pm.
Barbara moved to accept the minutes and Joanne seconded, Minutes were approved unanimously.
Lynn’s treasurer’s report was presented by Shelley. Our current balance is $29,958.70
Lisa moved to accept the treasurer’s report, Barbara seconded. Unanimous approval
Shelley’s report:
United Way would like to meet with Shelley. They are very supportive of the proposed day care center, and would like to partner with AWF as we grow.
501c status is not yet approved. Shelley and Robert will follow up with CPA to determine how we can speed up the process.
Barbara lead brainstorm about where we want to be by end of 2007
Support for splost continuation
Legislative group to give voice to seniors
One fundraising event
One or two grant requests
Civic engagement with volunteers
Strategy for corporate involvement
Educate community about who we are
Craft and document the vision
We agreed that it was important to work on the above in tandem with the branding project, so that we have examples of accomplishments as we introduce ourselves to the public.
Action items: Identify our first project(s) in May.
Shelley work with her team on specific tasks that AWF can assist with.
