January 2007 minutes

Official Minutes of the January meeting of the Board of Directors

Lisa read the minutes, they will be amended to include the date of the meeting

Barbara moved to accept the minutes
Lynn seconded

Minutes were accepted as amended.



Barbara reported that the 501c status is close, but has not been approved at this point

Lynn reported that the Wachovia account is open. The board agreed that our checking account procedure will be to require two signatures for any checks written for $250 or above.

Our first donation was received from Automationdirect.com for $30.000.00
No expenses were incurred, so our balance is $30,000.

Diane moved to accept the treasurer’s report.
Lisa seconded. The motion was approved unanimously

Executive Director Report: Shelley Johnson

Age Well Forsyth has been incorporated as a nonprofit in state of GA
Not a 501c3 yet. The form is expected to be finalized and mailed within a month. (by Feb 15). It could take 2-3 months to accept the application if all things are in order. It could take up to a year if there are questions.

Leadership Forsyth class project: The 2007 Leadership Forsyth class has selected the senior center as their class project. Shelley showed a proposed landscaping project for the back yard. Materials will be purchased by Splost money, and the leadership class will coordinate the work effort.

The renovation of the center is proceeding well, and Shelley showed the mural in progress.

Ann moved to accept the Executive Director Report, Robert seconded
The motion was unanimously approved.

New business

1) Shelley reports that a group of Srs. From the center have an appointment with Governor on March 1 as part of Senior Week at the state Capital. We are welcome to attend this meeting.
2) Discussions were held about the need to cast and document the corporation’s vision in order to begin raising funds to add programs such as:
a. Adult Day Care
b. Active adult center
c. Additional senior activities and services
3) Needs Analysis: Need to survey the county of needs – possibly at Senior Expo on Feb 17th in Central park. (Lynn and Shelley to organize) There is a survey available from two years ago (Shelley), and possibly some information can be culled from the Parks and Rec survey Llynn). United Way is another source of information, possibly Envision 2030 as well. (Robert)
a. Action: Shelley to be the point person to gather the information related to needs analysis
4) Cast vision: set up a brainstorming session to review and discuss priorities
5) Roadshow: Communicate the vision to appropriate groups and individuals
6) Action: Barbara to get a web domain on AgeWellForsyth.org

Next month’s meeting will be a working session devoted to setting our vision and messages to the community.

Meetings will be set on the 4th Wednesday each month at 6:00 at the Senior Center.
